Glen Croe
This was first day out in the hills for a long time due to COVID restrictions so it felt like a big step to be getting out in the hills again. The forest track lead gently up towards the Brack turning into a path after about 2 miles. A little knoll just after the start of the path caused some interest for me. Getting my mountain head on and messing around with my two walking poles as I attempted to climb the knoll meant I was lunged speedily into the air to land very ungracefully on my back. Having dusted myself off and check all my bits, I had got away with only a slight ache in my back, thankfully. After moving on a couple of miles I opened up my rucksack to get a snack to find my coke can completely smashed with a massive dent into it. Well I have lot to thanks the Coca Cola corporation since my back would have been in a right state if I had taken the full force of the rock that hit my can! The rest of the day was a lot less eventful. The Brack is a shapely peak and well worth the effort. I then made the reasonably long traverse to Cnoc Coinnich before descending into the valley between Cnoc Coinnich and Ben Donich. The major problem with getting between these two peaks was getting through the forest at the bottom of the valley. That accomplished then the rest of the day was an easy ascent then a descent into Glen Croe and a pleasant walk along the old military road back to my car.
Day two of my trip after a good rest at Crianlarich YHA. The climbs were very steep, particularly Stob Coire Creagach but I was already getting the idea that the Corbetts were going to be tough little bu.....ers!
The Cobbler expedition was a short but very pleasant ascent. The forest walk above the car park is very pleasant with a good path, as you would expect from the huge numbers of walkers who go up the peak each year. After moving into the open country then the decision has to be made as to which route of ascent is going to be taken. There are two routes to the top so the person who I had met up with on the ascent preferred the more steep ascent so that is what I did. Once on the top then it was the task of working out how to navigate the last few feet of rock crawling through the hole then climbing the few steps to the top. My companion had been to the top of the Cobbler 16 times before but had not had the courage to do the final bit. With my encouragement and guidance he finally did it and got to stand on the proper top! He was mighty pleased with himself.
